1. How to download fingerprint templates
from computer to fingerprint device? What is the downloading
speed?
1.1 Via Management Software, download fingerprint enrolled
at computer to fingerprint device. Need to use with
USB
fingerprint enrolment device.
1.2 Connect fingerprint readers and other controllers on
a RS-485 line; configure it to have different ID or connect
fingerprint reader via wiegand to controller.
1.3 The below stated controller can be connect via RS-485
line to fingerprint controller or fingerprint time clock
or fingerprint reader to enabled computer to download fingerprint
templates via controller to fingerprint
device.
When using Door Access System adding fingerprint
device, the fingerprint device has to be added as child
device to controller.
The mentioned controllers are: SK200/400,
SK100-NT, SK200/400-NT, SK800, SK100-NT-F, SKTES.
1.4 500 fingerprint templates need 5 min to transfer from
computer to fingerprint reader.
2. How to store fingerprint templates
to a card?
Smartkey fingerprint support fingerprint templates to be
stored in Mifare Card. Each card can store 2 fingerprint
templates. When card is flashed on the reader, the reader
will retrieve templates stores in card to do matching. Benefits
of using this method are¡
2.1. Number of users no longer restricted by number of templates
allowed in the fingerprint reader. (Fingerprint
reader holds only maximum 1,900 templates), now user can
increase to 10,000 people.
2.2. Implemented 1:1 matching method therefore had increase
matching speed.
2.3. Decrease error rate, thereby enhancing system safety.
There are 2 methods to write fingerprint templates to Mifare
card.
1. Connect Mifare
RS-232 read/write reader to computer and transfer
templates using management software.
2. Write directly to card
from fingerprint reader.
3. How to increase fingerprint matching
speed?
3.1. Using 1:1 matching method e.g. card + fingerprint
or ID + fingerprint.
3.2. Adjust matching mode. There are 6 modes for selection.
Default is set to 1. The bigger the number, the faster
the matching speed is but FAR (False Acceptance Rate) will
increase.
4. What to do
if staff's fingerprint quality is bad?
4.1. Enroll more finger as backup. When one fingerprint
quality is not good, user still got backup finger to use.
Each user can enroll up to 10 fingers.
4.2. Choose to use Card + PIN for access or time check.
During enrolment, select not to have fingerprint for access.
To avoid card being abused, can also implement to have picture
taken during flash card. All the network
based access controller and time clock device support camera
feature.
5. One computer can connect
how many fingerprint reader?
Fingerprint device connect with computer via
RS-485 communication. I master connection can connect up
to maximum 32 unit fingerprint device. If require more than
32 units, can consider using RS-485 Hub as it can connect
4 master lines.
6. How to connect fingerprint reader
to controller? How to initiate fingerprint templates downloading
and backup?
Fingerprint reader connects via wiegand to SK100/200/400/SKDC
and SK100/200/400-NT controller. Even though it is equipped
with a RS-485 interface but it cannot be used to connect
to controllers. The RS-485 interface is use for connection
with computer for template downloading purpose.
7.
How to use fingerprint reader with SK800 controller?
When uses SK800 controller, fingerprint
reader can directly connect to SKDC Door Controller. When
require downloading fingerprint from computer then RS-485
connector on reader has to be connect to SK800 controller¡¯s
RS-485 connector.
8. Can optical
fingerprint devices be installed in outdoor environment?
Under normal circumstances, optical fingerprint reader should
be installed indoor as outdoor lighting will affect its
work performance. If installed outdoor, change the setting
on the fingerprint reader "Finger Menu>>>Parameters>>>Light
Condition" set it to (Outdoor). Smartkey fingerprint device
can be used in -20 degree outdoor environment but then will
get slowness on LCD display and also will decrease the communication
speed with computer though will not affect fingerprint matching
and data storage.

9. What is
the pro and con of CMOS fingerprint device?
9.1 Greatest advantage is it uses life fingerprint technology
and has very high discrimination towards fake fingerprint.
Fingerprint collection and matching speed is faster compare
to optical sensor.
9.2 Disadvantage is it is sensitive to low temperature;
not suitable to use at north region cooler environment.
And also the need of direct contact with
sensor and easily scratch the sensor surface hence shorten
sensor life span.
9.3 3. Recommend using optical sensor on busy district or
for time attendance which does not enforce high security.
If tight security is a must like prison or bank, it is better
to use CMOS sensor.
9.4 CMOS fingerprint sensor does not support auto scanning
function. Have to press [#] each time to trigger scanning.
10. What
to do if require larger fingerprint storage capacity?
Smartkey normally producing fingerprint device that holds
1,900 templates at the same time can also provide capacity
that holds 9,500 templates but 2 have to order 2 weeks in
advance.
9,500 capacity fingerprint device perform exactly like 1,900
capacity device. It doesn¡¯t get affected when the capacity
increase, the matching speed, FAR and FRR rate remains.
11. Several technical indicators
that will cause performance impact to fingerprint device.
11.1. False Rejection Rate and False Acceptance Rate
False Rejection Rate (FRR) means incorrectly reject an access
attempt by an authorized user. A system¡¯s FRR typically
is stated as the ratio of the number of false rejections
divided by the number of identification attempts.
False Acceptance Rate (FAR) means incorrectly accept an
access attempt by an unauthorized user. A system¡¯s FAR typically
is stated as the ratio of the number of false acceptances
divided by the number of identification attempts.
11.2. Error Registration Rate
Error Registration Rate (ERR) is used to describe the adaptability
of fingerprint device. ERR referring to the probability
fingerprint equipment not able to register and manage fingerprint.
The higher ERR the more it will affect the use of the equipment.
11.3. Speed
Fingerprint Identification System operation speed mainly
indicates by acquisition, image processing, matching time
and average identifying speed.
11.4. 1:1 (One-to-One) & 1:N (One to Many)
There are 2 typical matching methods a Fingerprint Identification
System has: Verification and Identification.
Verification mode is acquired fingerprint and performing
a 1:1 match against sets of fingerprint specimen. Identification
is performing a 1:N matching against stored templates. 1:1
match is more suitable at civil occasion whereas 1:N is
in the field of criminal investigation.
12. What is the practical expect
from downloading fingerprint from network fingerprint controller
to fingerprint reader?
Require fingerprint recognition on a door during entry and
exit. |
